Frequently Asked Questions About How to Cook Homemade Pasta

How long does it take to cook fresh homemade pasta?

Cooking times will vary depending on the thickness of the pasta. That being said, fresh pasta cooks much quicker compared to store-bought pasta, so the general recommendation is to boil in saltwater for around 4 minutes and check periodically until the pasta is al dente (cooked but firm to the bite).

Why is my fresh pasta chewy?

The main reason as to why your pasta may be too chewy is because you could be over-kneading the dough, particularly if you use a machine. This will make it hard to roll the dough and will become chewy when cooked. To avoid this, reduce the kneading time and leave the dough after kneading at least 30mins before rolling.

What do I do if my pasta dough is too sticky?

Getting the consistency of your pasta correct is extremely important. If your dough is too sticky, add a small amount of flour to get the perfect texture. If your dough is to dry and crumbly, add a small amount of water.
